Sapa is home to a wide variety of ethnic minority groups whose costume is colorful and unique. The H’mong and Red Dao are two among the most crowded ones in Sapa. Visiting Sapa without joining in a market session may be a great pity. At weekends, local hill tribes often gather together in many market sessions to buy and sell goods as well as to socialize. Some of them, especially the youth, can speak English at basic level since the number of foreign tourists heading to Sapa has increased recently. In such markets, you can buy colorful clothing or handicraft sold by the hill tribe women of children.

Besides the markets, local villages are interesting destinations to visit. May visitors are excited with trekking expeditions to local villages which is provided by any hotels and trael agencies in town. They can also trek by themselves to villages nearby Sapa town center such as Cat Cat (3 km from town center) or Ta Phin (10 km from town center). Overnight stays in some villages such as Sin Chai are also popular options.

For more stunning scenery, a cycling trip to Tram Ton Pass, which is some 15 kilometers away from Sapa, is a great option. At the 1900m high, the highest point, tourists will have a breathtaking view over Sapa and the amazing valleys.

Another thing to do in Sapa is climbing up Fansipan, the highest mountain peak in Vietnam (3143m). In order to join in this tour, you have to prepare necessary things, especially good health.
