Da Nang attracts over 1.5 million tourists in year's first half

The central coastal city of Da Nang has witnessed a dramatic increase of foreign tourist arrivals by cruise ships during the first two months of 2013

The number of tourists to Da Nang reached 1.54 million in the first six months this year, a year-on-year rise of 16.3 percent, according to the City’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.


 Of this, the number of foreigners increased 11.4 percent to nearly 400,000 arrivals, while domestic tourist arrivals kept stable growth of 18 percent at 11.5 million arrivals.


 Specifically, with the policy to further attract tourists by sea and air, in the first two quarters this year, the city had 18 direct international flight routes.


 Number of tourists arriving by air reached more than 117,000, a year-on-year rise of 94.2 percent. Currently, the operation of direct flights from Da Nang to Wenzhou, Hong Kong and Chengdu were expanded to attract more air tourists.


 In the first half of the year, the city welcomed 53 cruise ships docking at Tien Sa Seaport bringing nearly 60,000 tourist arrivals, up 67.6 percent against the same period last year.


In the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, the total number of tourists to the province during the period reached nearly 5.4 million, including more than 300,000 foreigners.


 According to the managing board of tourism areas in the southern city of Vung Tau, during the Jan-June period, tourism areas and beaches in the city greeted nearly 1.54 million tourists, a year-on-year rise of 9 percent.
