If art and architecture matter more to you than beaches and beer, Hue will be high on your Vietnam must-visit list. The capital of the Nguyen emperors, Hue is packed with temples, tombs, palaces and pagodas - or at least the remains of those that successive armies didn’t manage to completely destroy.

HUE ART TOUR 1 DAY

You will be picked up at your hotel and begin your Hue tour at the Old Citadel. Construction of the Imperial City started in 1805, under the reign of Emperor Gia Long, and was completed in 1832, under the reign of Emperor Minh Mang. Built on the northern bank of the Perfume River, the Imperial City was influenced by the style of French architect Vauban. The city comprises three sections: the Royal Citadel, the Imperial Enclosure and the Forbidden Purple City.

After the first portion of your tour, you will meet students and teachers at Hue’s Fine Arts College, then visit artist, Vinh Phoi, in his studio and learn about his life and inspiration.

After lunch, you will also visit Thien Mu Pagoda and enjoy a great view of the Perfume River and surrounding area. Thien Mu Pagoda is considered the symbol of Hue, and of Buddhism in Vietnam. From here you will cruise further to ornate Minh Mang's tomb, Vietnam's most important Buddhist site, which also overlooks the river. Then you will be free to go shopping in Hue until you depart for you next destination.
